GWGuardian Improves Productivity and Makes a Heroine of the Director of Operations at Emporia State University
I was originally looking for something to replace our antivirus software that we had been using for email and decided that for about the same price I would get something that would help control spam, as well. Increasing amounts of spam were frustrating our faculty, staff, and students, and I was beginning to get requests from people asking to change their email address in an attempt to thwart the spammers.
In researching available appliances integrating and antispam and antivirus engine, I was looking for something that would not require constant tuning and would allow our users to customize their own settings. GWGuardian was exactly what I was looking for. In addition to being reasonably priced (there is a huge price variation among antispam vendors), it integrated easily with our current GroupWise system, and can be used with any other email system we might choose in the future. It allowed me to assign default settings for the entire campus or even separate settings for our the faculty and students, respectively. Yet, it is flexible enough to allow users to change whatever settings I want to allow them to change.
Our users are thrilled! I received many emails the first couple of weeks after I implemented GWGuardian thanking me for stopping the spam. We are seeing very high spam catch rates and extremely low false positive rates.
My management is happy, too. GWGuardian's reports allow me to show them exactly how much spam and how many viruses are being trapped, which relates directly to productivity. As much as 60% of our incoming mail was spam or viruses. Now users don't have to deal with all that garbage in their inbox and our technicians have fewer infected computers to clean up.
