Messaging Architects Solutions Improve Productivity & Simplify Collaboration at Brunswick County Schools
Located on the Southeastern Coast of North Carolina, Brunswick County encompasses 16 schools with their specific identities to make the county welcoming and diversified. The school district leverages the power of Novell’s GroupWise as its messaging platform.
Problem
"A year ago, our mail server crashed and we lost everybody’s email over a period of a few year. We realized that we needed a solution that would prevent this from happening again," explains Leonard Jenkins, Technology Director at Brunswick Country Schools. "We are also compelled by state legislation to retain email for 5 years and provide email on request due to access to information. Sometimes users would delete their email and then come to us to ask for it. So the solution would be to recreate the DB and recover the email from backup – very time-consuming. We were also running of storage space – every year, the volume of email is growing and more and more stuff needed to be backed up & it took longer to do it."
Solution
"We have been using GWArchive for a year and we are very pleased with the product," continues Jenkins. "The overwhelming reason why we wanted to implement a solution that would allow us to offload information from our GroupWise server is the requirement to retain email and other electronic data for a period of 5 years and at the same time be able to produce any requested email quickly.
"GWArchive was a good choice for us. Since its introduction, we no longer lose people’s email and our GroupWise server has improved performance as we have an archiving policy that publishes people’s email every 15 days and removes it from the GW message store to an archiving server. The users, however, still have access to their archives through the GWArchive WebAccess client which allows them to find email that is not on the production server. Once we showed them how the piece worked and they became comfortable with it, we haven’t had any problems. In fact, GWArchive works perfectly for us and does exactly what we need it to do: we’ve recovered our storage space back and GroupWise performance has increased."
The GWArchive solution is managing the GroupWise archives of all 1200 employees and is running very solid.
"As we were already using GWGuardian from Messaging Architects and we already had positive experience with the company, it was an easy decision to go ahead and try GWArchive. We weren’t disappointed; working with them has been great," concludes Jenkins.
