Why You Need to Reduce Email Migration Risk

The Drivers

A growing number of organizations are contemplating migrating from one email platform to another mail and collaboration platform, motivated by changes to vendor products as well as IT issues. Other drivers behind email migration projects are related to mergers and acquisitions (M&A), a demand for more functionality and integration with desktop productivity applications, an aging email infrastructure, and more.

Email is a valuable and convenient business tool. However, if your email is not migrated correctly, it can be the source of hassle, wasted time, spiraling costs, and even risk to your business. The need to keep email working and available during an email migration should be a business priority for all organizations contemplating an email migration as email is now a mission-critical business resource.

The Problem

Email is an important business tool which demands high levels of security, performance, and availability.

For organizations without dedicated migration tools, email migrations can prove to be a major undertaking and the risk of failure is high.

The Consequences

Poorly-executed email migrations and inferior migration tools can result in unplanned downtime, reduced productivity, loss of business, and potentially put your organization at risk of losing important email records.

According to Osterman Research, organizations typically experience an average of 53 minutes of unplanned downtime during a typical month or 10.6 hours over a period of a year. Email migrations can increase this risk substantially, so organizations undertaking an email migration need to carefully weigh the potential impact of email downtime on their business and choose their migration tools wisely. Failed migrations may not only bring about extended system downtime, but may also result in data loss.

Your organization must complete the email migration as quickly and seamlessly as possible, limiting downtime.
