Companies and organizations will continue to rely on and implement on-premise email solutions over the next several years, according to the latest report from industry research firm the Radicati Group.

In its recently published report, On-Premises Email and Collaboration Market, 2010-2014, Radicati predicts deployments of these types of email solutions will increase by a compound annual growth rate of 6 percent over the next four years. This year, on-premise solution installations will reach 550 million, according to the report.

Email continues to be the primary enterprise communication platform, Radicati concluded. Because of this, certain features are now expected to be contained in solutions, including email archiving, anti-spam filters and social network integration, among others, according to the report.

The reported shift of social media supplanting email in the workplace doesn't appear to be taking shape rapidly. According to recent survey conducted by IBM, 58 percent of managers said email is their most preferred form of enterprise communication. Face-to-face was a distant second at 23 percent and telephone conversations were cited by 15 percent.
