Many IT departments overwhelmed by amount of email storage

Email storage optimization can be a headache for many in the IT field, as the volume of email data continues to mount.

According to an article in CIO magazine, "email stores are now growing faster than our ability to handle it effectively." The other problem, according to the article, is the time-consuming nature of dealing with the amount of emails. It is estimated that the average employee spends between one and two hours a week trying to put emails in the right place.

With many highly skilled employees losing hours to this process, it is potentially costing companies millions of dollars in lost productivity.

According to CIO magazine, "since the quota system doesn't work universally in all situations, the IT department will need to spend even more time micro-managing individual users and establishing special quotas for special cases."

In an article on Infostor.com, contributors Jeff Byrne and Jeff Boles wrote that organizations that have a hard time with storage bloat should consider file compression as one solution for storage optimization. The need to cut down on how much time and space information takes up got trickier after the Federal Rules of Civil Procedures became law in 2006. The new law meant that companies were now required to keep detailed records of their emails.ADNFCR-2797-ID-19764802-ADNFCR
