Novell's GroupWise email platform was recently recognized by market research firm Gartner as one of the top services in the industry.
The study ranked Novell's GroupWise platform alongside offerings from IBM, Microsoft and VMware, each of which was given the study's highest rating - "positive." Other, less successful platforms, included the Linux-based Xandra Scalix email platform, which was slightly less efficient than the industry leaders, and Open-Xchange, which still presents security risks due to the company's migration to a cloud platform. Oracle's Beehive email solution was left out of the study because it has yet to report any success in the enterprise email market.
The firm chose the industry's most-productive email services based off of Gartner client interest. The email archiving and storage capabilities were the determining factors that separated the platforms at the top of the list. While Microsoft was still ahead of all other providers in the study, upcoming developments in the industry leave the opportunity for competitors to further their presence in the market.
GroupWise appears to be a main-stay for businesses, as a recent survey found 62 percent of respondents plan to continue using the platform for at least the next two years.
