Steve, This is a current limitation of WebAccess and it is something that Novell is aware of. We will announce on our blog as soon as there is a definite timeline in terms of when this will be available.

Phil, We couldn't agree more, this was the purpose of the article. Stubbing should NOT be the only or primary means of accessing archived mail that resides on the secondary storage and "millions of stub records spanning several years" is also something to avoid. We've described 2 best practices means of using stubbing where a relatively low amount of items are stubbed to give the highest disk space savings, stubbing should NOT be used in an attempt to give access to more mail items than one would otherwise keep in the live mail system.

Stubbing / Archiving messages off to a cheaper storage solution solves the problem of the of too much email being stored in the GroupWise system however it does not sove the issue of the amount of messages being stored in the GroupWise database that needs to be backed up and indexed, messages, stubbing will increase the size of the GroupWise databases over time One of the biggest GroupWise concerns is the amount of space allocated to store GroupWise email. If you have hundreds of gigabytes of hard disk space in use by a GroupWise post office, you would be well aware of how long it takes to backup and/or restore the post office. With millions of stub records spanning several years, most likely the storage needs will increase, creating more concerns with the backup and restore process.

What he's referring to is that messages won't actually exist in the message store. For any user who's not using a standard GroupWise client, most of these applications should also include a web interface so that users have the ability to access those messages without requiring the live GroupWise client.

Can a person access a stubbed email via WebAccess? How about caching users? What are the limitations there? -Steve
