Financial Institutions May Depend on GWGuardian to Ensure Email Security

Bill Roth is Network Security Engineer in charge of perimeter and network security at a major US Bank who has been using GWGuardian to secure the bank’s collaboration system – currently GroupWise 6.5. Understandably, Messaging Architects was asked not to divulge the identity of the client to avoid any possible security breaches of their internal network infrastructure.

"Before GWGuardian, we were using Guinevere and Spam Assassin to deal with spam issues. This was a very labor-intensive process, as my team was going through every single email because of false positive concerns. On the other hand, the spam catch rate was constantly deteriorating – when we first introduced the product, it was catching about 80% of the spam; by the time we had it replaced by GWGuardian, the spam catch rate had dropped to a mere 15%. Not a good situation," explains Roth.

"Deploying GWGuardian in our system provided a really excellent solution for our environment. Spam was being trapped in the quarantine and more importantly, we were able to transfer the responsibility of monitoring the quarantine to our end users. It was no longer up to us to determine what was spam and what wasn’t, which in itself is a somewhat subjective decision. In fact, GWGuardian’s end user quarantine report feature eliminated the problem of false positives which was consuming so much of the IS team’s time."

"Overall I am very pleased with the relationship with Messaging Architects and would recommend their security solution to any financial institution," concludes Roth.
