GWGuardian Provides Reliable Anti-Spam and Anti-Virus Protection to Neosho R5 School District
Background
Neosho R-5 School District’s mission is to facilitate learning, nurture individual potential; and develop students through successful learning experiences. As a public school district, Neosho consists of 4 elementary schools, 1 middle school, and 1 high school. For the past 7 years, Neosho R-5 School District has relied on Novell GroupWise for collaboration and messaging, currently running version 7.
Winning the Battle against Spam
Like any other educational institution, one of the biggest problems Neosho R-5 School District is faced with is the amount of spam that targets the organization’s email system on a daily basis. According to Rodney Griffin, Network Administrator at Neosho R-5 School District, about half of the email traffic is unsolicited. That's why he was looking for a gateway solution that would allow him to protect his GroupWise system from various threats without requiring unnecessary babysitting and tweaking of the filters.
Before selecting GWGuardian, Neosho School District was using another product that was directly deployed on the GroupWise server. Griffin wanted a solution that would run independently of the email server and hence intercept and eliminate unwanted email before it reached and needlessly burdened the GroupWise system.
"GWGuardian is doing a great job for us," explains Griffin. "Since we deployed it in our environment, we have been spam and virus free. The users have daily access to their spam quarantine reports that they receive directly in their GroupWise mailboxes. When we first implemented GWGuardian, we got a lot of praise from our employees. They were so happy that the spam had suddenly ceased to pass through the system into their inboxes. Now, of course, they are used to having a spam-free email environment that allows them to use email quickly and securely."
From an administrator's point of view, Griffin is pleased with the fact that GWGuardian provides his school district reliable and superior protection without having to spend any time configuring the settings or managing spam and virus engine updates as the whole process is fully automated.
