Millard Public Schools Network Support Specialist Becomes a Hero by Implementing M+Archive

The Millard Public Schools District consists of 23 elementary, 6 middle, and 4 high schools with a staff of 2300 teachers and other support personnel to service the southwest Omaha Nebraska region. Since 1990, a strategic planning process has led to the development of the Millard Education Program, which uses clearly defined and measured standards to ensure that all students learn the academic and life skills necessary for responsible living and personal success. To ensure successful collaboration among the various schools and district departments, Millard Public Schools relies on Novell's GroupWise as a messaging platform running 3 Post Offices.

Some of the challenges that faced John Dickey, Network Support Specialist, at Millard Public Schools had to do with the retention and retrieval of information stored in his GroupWise system. The school district has a policy of archiving electronic data for a period of 7 years. Using the GroupWise-native archiving functionality was not a good solution, as, on the one hand, it did not really centralize the archives at single repository and, on the other, it did not offer the tools for managing and searching centrally the archives in cases when information had to be produced fast. "Being able to search and retrieve the needed information in a timely manner was essential when selecting a solution," explains Mr. Dickey.

At Mr. Dickey's recommendation, the school opted for M+Archive to address the issues of retaining and managing archived email. "The application way easy to use and affordable, which is always a concern in the educational sector," continues Dickey. "Moreover, it has an extremely flexible and fast search engine that allows us to obtain the relevant information in cases of discovery very fast - instead of waiting for several days, we can get it almost immediately. This for us was crucial."

"Having M+Archive integrated in my GroupWise system has made me a hero in the eyes the Millard Public Schools Superintendent," concludes Mr. Dickey.
