Messaging Architects Announces Formation of an Open Source Project called GWCommander to Provide an Extensible Family of Comprehensive Compliance, Policy and Auditing Tools for Novell GroupWise
Messaging Architects will donate the existing GWCommander code acquired from OpenNet Software Ltd. to the project as well as provide several development resources
BrainShare, Salt Lake City, March 22 - Messaging Architects, a Montreal-based software developer that helps organizations to secure, manage and extend their Email and Collaboration systems today announced that it has acquired the software products and technology portfolio of OpenNet Software Ltd of Sofia. In the coming weeks, the company will form a new open source project dedicated to the advancement of the GWCommander platform which is a framework for developing compliance and management applications for GroupWise.
"Currently, no affordable or open source solutions exist, so this project will fill a major void in the marketplace, while also helping organizations better manage their GroupWise systems, so they can achieve their compliance objectives," said Pierre Chamberland, CEO of Messaging Architects. "We already have a framework and applications that provides most of the functionality required by GroupWise administrators - we think that the GroupWise community of independent developers will rally around this initiative as it will benefit all GroupWise users worldwide." Kiril Stankov, the founder of OpenNet and the Architect of GWCommander, will join the Messaging Architects team as the Leader of the Open Source Project.
Established in March, 2003, OpenNet has developed several management and reporting applications for Novell GroupWise. The other main product acquired is TreeCast. TreeCast Enterprise lets administrators create, Broadcast and maintain entire shared folder trees without the need for Proxy rights. The management console allows them to provisioning tree structures via eDirectory, and to centrally repair deleted, renamed or moved folders. Over 1000 GroupWise sites worldwide have deployed TreeCast.
Fully supported, commercial versions of GWCommander and TreeCast will continue to exist and are natural extensions to Messaging Architects’ existing product line. Some of the other products of OpenNet will be integrated into Messaging Architects existing solutions. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
